Unlock Office files (remove password)

Remove the password from an Office document you can already open. As with PDFs, you must supply the correct current password — slimdocs decrypts a file you have legitimate access to, nothing more.

How to use it

1. Open the Unlock Office tool.
2. Drop in the protected .docx, .xlsx or .pptx.
3. Enter its current password.
4. Download the unlocked copy.

Encrypted Office documents

Word, Excel and PowerPoint can encrypt a file with a password, and modern Office uses strong AES encryption to do it. That is great for protecting a sensitive spreadsheet or report, but it means the file asks for the password on every open — and cannot be searched, previewed or processed by other tools until it is decrypted.

If you own such a file and know its password, removing it gives you a normal, freely-openable document again.

Requires the current password

Like the PDF unlocker, this tool only works on files you can already open. You provide the correct password, slimdocs decrypts the document, and you download an unprotected copy. It cannot recover, guess or bypass a forgotten password, and it is not a way into a file you are not authorised to access.

Use it only on your own documents or ones you have permission to open. The result is identical to the original in every way except that the password requirement is gone.
